Life is the subject material of an artist, and all the experiences encountered along the way become part of one’s art. Creating a style is not something that one sets out to accomplish in a purposeful way. It is something that evolves and grows with the maturing person. It is not a deliberate process, rather, at its best it is evolutionary, having roots in one’s life experiences. Obviously, one is influenced by other artists along the way. This becomes input into our total being. When we find out who WE are, then this evolutionary process is well on it’s way to producing an individual rather than an imitator. Training is very important. However, in the final analysis, the most important ingredient is the desire and the relentless pursuit of drawing. For, through constant drawing, you develop yourself and your own style.
